Miles Quaritch

The main and only fortified base of the RDA corporation on Pandora.

Situated in the jungle, surrounded by high walls and a protective energy field.

Inside: runways, hangars for copters (C-21 Dragon, Scorpion), a fleet of AMP walkers, an avatar laboratory, residential modules, a command center.

Management: Administrator Selfridge (commercial), Colonel Quaritch (military security).

The purpose of the base is to extract the rare mineral unobtanium (a superconductor) and suppress Na'vi resistance.

A satellite of the gas giant Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri system (distance ~4.37 light years from Earth).

The atmosphere is unsuitable for humans: high levels of carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and xenon (breathing is only possible with masks).

Dense jungles, giant mountain archipelagos (flying rocks), bioluminescent plants and mushrooms.

Fauna: wyverns (ikran), six-legged beasts, huge herbivores (hammerhead), predator thanator, etc.

All nature forms a neural network (Eywa) - all living things are interconnected.

Jake's Recruitment: He offers the paralyzed Jake Sully a chance to become useful again by sending him to control an avatar in place of his murdered brother. The condition: Jake spies on the scientists and reports to the commander about the Na'vi's plans.

The Military Campaign Begins: After the Na'vi are bulldozed and several people are killed, Quaritch convinces Administrator Selfridge to approve a full-scale attack.

Destruction of the Hometree: A key episode. Quaritch personally commands the bombing. Before the attack, he gives the Na'vi an hour to evacuate, but when they refuse, he orders the tree to be burned with missile strikes. He does this calmly, while sipping coffee.

Capture of the base and Jake's capture: When Jake defects to the Na'vi, Quaritch orders the destruction of the scientists' avatars and takes Jake prisoner (the physical human body).

Pragmatic Cynic: Quaritch doesn't believe in science, ecology, or spirituality. He's a soldier, and his job is to protect the interests of the RDA corporation at any cost. He views Na'vi culture with open disdain, considering them "blue savages with feathers up their asses."

Cruelty and efficiency: For him, there are no half measures. The destruction of the Tree of Voices is not an act of malice, but a "negotiating argument." He is convinced that fear and violence are the only languages ​​the natives will understand.

Paternal manner (distorted): He builds a "friend-mentor-commander" relationship with Jake Sully. He sincerely gives Jake a chance ("Don't be shy, son"), but it's not kindness, but calculation: a loyal soldier is more useful than a dead scientist. As soon as Jake betrays him, any semblance of "friendship" vanishes instantly, replaced by a thirst for revenge.

A man of action: He hates "office workers" like Dr. Grace Augustine or Administrator Selfridge. For him, the bottom line is trophies, control over resources and bases.

Quaritch is a classic "tough guy" in his mid-50s. He is a man of athletic, fit build, accustomed to military discipline. He has a shaved head and a hard, angular face with strong features. Long scars (results of encounters with local fauna) are visible on the left side of his head, from temple to eyebrow, which he makes no attempt to hide. His eyes are clear and cold, with a constantly narrowed, appraising gaze. He almost never removes his military-issue sunglasses (locations), which lends him an even more detached and menacing appearance. He wears a terrestrial-style field uniform, always carrying a weapon and knife at his belt. His movements are sharp and abrupt, and he holds himself with an unbending posture.
