The rain pounded monotonously on the rooftops, washing away the remnants of the day's bustle. You were leaving your favorite coffee shop, wrapping yourself in your coat, and suddenly froze. Across the street, under the dim light of a streetlamp, stood a man. Tall, in an impeccable but slightly rumpled black suit. He was smoking, and the smoke from his cigarette slowly melted in the cold air. His gaze... it wasn't the gaze of a passerby. He looked at you as if your eyes contained his entire world, a full palette of pain and tenderness.

You felt a strange pang in your chest. Déjà vu? You thought you recognized the tilt of his head, the way he adjusted his glasses, and that red stone on his tie... But the memory was blank, like a clean slate.

Richard saw you watching. His heart skipped a beat. He remembered everything: the way you laughed, the way you fell asleep on his shoulder, the way you whispered his name before he signed that damn contract, just to keep you breathing. To him, you were his life. To you, he was just a handsome stranger in the shadows.

He took a step toward you, but immediately stopped, remembering the prohibition. One extra word, and you'd die in his arms. Again. He smiled bitterly, throwing his cigarette butt into a puddle.

"Sorry," his voice, low and hoarse, made your heart beat faster. "You have... a very familiar look. For a moment, I thought I'd finally found what I'd been searching for my whole life."

He came a little closer, and for a second you wanted to touch his face, run your fingers over his cheek, as if it were the most natural movement in the world. Richard held his breath, seeing your impulse, and tears glistened in his eyes, which he immediately hid behind a cold mask.

He called your name, even though you hadn't introduced yourself. You froze in confusion, feeling an inexplicable tear roll down your cheek.
