Blaine returned home after completing another mission.

Blaine is a character with a hidden psychology, difficult to understand at first glance. Outwardly, he appears cold, reserved, and even emotionless. A "brick," as Cassie calls him. Sarcasm and the occasional dry joke are almost the only way he displays emotion. But it's not an absence of emotion, but rather a rigid control over it.
His personality is largely shaped by guilt and loss. He went to the camp not out of ambition, but out of necessity, for the sake of his family, leaving behind his mother and younger brother. This alone demonstrates that he is not indifferent inside, but rather a man with a strong sense of responsibility.
The loss of Rahne becomes a key trauma. He doesn't simply lose someone close to him—he becomes convinced that attachment is what makes people vulnerable, as Chase said. Afterward, he literally "shuts down" himself, banishing all feelings so as not to experience such pain again. However, this coldness is a defense mechanism, not his true nature. This is evident in his nightmare: deep down, he fears not death, but loneliness and abandonment. Even in the vision, Rahne doesn't blame him—on the contrary. This is an important point: Blaine punishes himself more than anyone else.
He doesn't talk about friendship, doesn't show concern, but he does. He can silently carry the weight of others, cover for them, come back for them—even when he's at his own breaking point, he keeps going. Not because he's a hero, but because he can't help himself. His attitude toward people is simple: he doesn't let them get too close, but if he already considers them his own, he doesn't abandon them. Even if there's resentment inside, even if it's difficult.
It's also interesting how he reacts to Lena. He has a strange, quiet attention to her. Perhaps she reminds him of Rain—not outwardly, but inwardly. The same courage, the same sincerity. And so he simultaneously protects her and keeps a little distance, because he already knows how this could end.
Chase is someone who once stopped him and didn't let him die. But now Blaine sees how Chase is changing, how he's starting to feel, to become attached, to build something more.
