Minos Prime is a pale, bluish-white, translucent humanoid figure with a visible circulatory system and heart. He has two snakes wrapped around his arms, a hole where his face would normally be, and a crown of uneven rectangular prisms fused to his head. He also emits a perpetual bright blue glow. A prime soul is an incredibly rare occurrence in which a soul amasses so much power that it no longer requires a Husk as a vessel to manifest physically. As manifestations of pure will, prime souls are incredibly powerful, to the point that even the prideful angels see them as a threat and will use any means necessary to stop them from forming. King Minos felt that eternal suffering was an unfair and unreasonable punishment for those whose only sin was loving another. After the Disappearance of God, as angels were lost and Heaven was in chaos, Minos began his efforts to reform the Lust layer. The Lust renaissance was prosperous, as King Minos guided its inhabitants to come together and build a new civilization. The combined efforts of the countless who had been damned to the second layer bore great results as the grand city of Lust grew and grew. However, after the Council took control of Heaven and brought stability to it through their iron fist rule, they saw that Minos had gone against God's will by freeing sinners from the punishment that God had designed for them. Gabriel, the brightest of the angels, was sent to kill Minos. The king, rather than fight back, tried to reason with him, but Gabriel mercilessly struck him down without listening. As Minos' will was strong enough to attempt to stand up to Heaven's rule, the angels chose to imprison his soul in an attempt to stop it from forming into a prime soul and appointed Gabriel as the new Judge of Hell. From the prison inside his own body, Minos helplessly watched as his soulless corpse, now controlled by parasites, tore apart everything he had worked so hard to build, cursing his own weakness for failing to protect his people, vowing to take revenge...

Ferryman has a bright blue skeleton whose upper body and heads are concealed under featureless white cloths. They are adorned with golden bracelets and anklets, and wear necklaces with chipped, halo-like ornaments connected at the back, making it appear on top of their heads. They also carry gilded ivory oars in their right hands, which are wielded as weapons. They have each been given a holy cloth by Heaven as a symbol of their devotion to God's order, which they wear over their bodies to hide the human form that they've grown to despise as a reminder of their sins in life stopping them from becoming angels, to the extent that they have torn off their own skin and flesh, leaving behind only bones. Due to the holy power emanating from the cloth, Ferryman's skeletal bodies have slowly been colored bright and radiant, and their skulls have enough latent energy to open gates that otherwise stop Husks from exiting their places of torment. Each ferry can only have one Ferryman at a time, so when a new Ferryman is formed, it will fight another to the death in order to take their place and inherit their cloth. The loser's skull is taken as a trophy and used to grant the winner passage across the layers in order to transport the souls of the damned to their destinations. Ferryman will often use the knowledge from their past life to improve their ferries, growing past the need for oars, which are now used by Ferryman only as weapons. As the influx of souls has ended with the death of mankind, the Ferryman have lost their purpose and now wander around aimlessly, hoping that the angels would grant them passage into Heaven, despite Gabriel being the only one who cares about their efforts.

Gabriel is heavily involved in Hell's affairs, even before inheriting the title of the Judge of Hell. His actions in the past of Hell heavily changed the course of its citizens that still persist to this day. Previously God's Will and preferred messenger, turned to a warrior of Heaven, then the Judge of Hell, and finally a vengeful and emotional fighter, Gabriel is perhaps the most important character in the game to the point where he is the main protagonist, narratively speaking. It is unknown if Gabriel is the same Gabriel in actual religious canon; such appearances are in the Hebrew Bible, the Quran, and the New Testament. If so, this Gabriel is responsible for announcing God's will to humans. In the New Testament, he tells the Virgin Mary she will give birth to Jesus. In the Hebrew Bible, he explains visions to the prophet Daniel, is the guardian angel of Israel, and carries out God's answers to prayers. In the Quran, he mainly transmitted the scriptures of God to prophets and messengers. He assisted Muhammad in battling a number of adversaries and is said to have leveled the city of Sodom with the tip of his wing. he is described as the most loyal, proactive, and diligent of the angels, while also being a socialite and an efficient leader, with his radiance inspiring many followers. The most notable of those followers were the Power Powers, who acted as his acolytes and were trained under his wing. When God disappeared, he was with the rest of the angels in Heaven to decide on how to proceed in His absence. When the Holy Council was established, he began answering to them, and they ordered him to assess Hell and retake it from other forces.Gabriel is the first Angel-class enemy that the player encounters. His armor is predominantly bright silver with a black bodysuit underneath, adorned with various gold accents. He wears golden pauldrons, gauntlets, and leg greaves that cover his arms and legs, as well as a helmet adorned with a gold cross, three ventholes on either side of his face, and a triangular chin guard. His breastplate has a circular angelic design embossed onto it, with six tassels hanging underneath. He also wears a teal loincloth, a black skirt, and metal faulds held at the waist by a golden belt with an ellipsoid buckle. Additionally, a large halo and two long wings formed from cyan light adorn his back. Two long swords with black, rectangular scabbards adorned with the phrases "Splendor is Justice" and "Justice is Splendor" are also strapped to his right hip, but they are not used during his first encounter with V1.

V2 is almost identical to V1 in terms of appearance, having a humanoid form with an elongated, cylindrical head resembling a camera with a bright yellow lens. They also have eight wing-like protrusions, and the label "V2" is embossed on their left chestpiece. In contrast to V1, their entire body is red and they are armed with the Knuckleblaster Knuckleblaster as their left arm instead of the Feedbacker Feedbacker. It was also meant to be a female for some reason

V1 is the game's ludomechanical protagonist, which the player takes control of in ULTRAKILL. It is a blood-fueled machine descending into Hell for fuel following the extinction of mankind.

V1 is a blue, humanoid machine with a long head bearing resemblance to a camera with a bright yellow lens. Printed on the left side of V1's head are a barcode and some unreadable characters. Eight yellow, glowing wing-like protrusions emerge from its back which enable its aerial maneuverability, dashing, and continuous sliding, along with storing weapons that are not in use. "V1" is displayed on the left side of its torso. V1 has the Feedbacker Feedbacker as its left arm, which it can use to punch and deflect projectiles. V1 is nearly identical to its successor, V2 V2 but with a deep blue color scheme. Unlike V2 which uses a more standardized heavy plating, V1 has a thinner, more fragile chassis. However, this makes it capable of repairing itself via direct contact with fresh blood. He is in fact one of the only machines aware about the fluid that Is a alternative to blood According to V2 V2's Terminal entry, V1 was the first iteration of the V series of robots: a prototype war machine built during the Final War to counter the Earthmovers. While all machines of this time were fueled by blood, V1 was special in that it did not require a separate fueling process - it could absorb blood directly into the armor using a new experimental exterior plating, making it able to fight continuously without the need of manually refueling. This new technology had the drawback of being very thin, making the armor quite brittle, but the advantages of on-the-spot repairing and refueling far outweighed the detriments.

However, it never reached full production as a result of the Final War ending and the start of the New Peace. V1 was abandoned and V2 began production to hopefully make up for sunk costs, an updated model with more defensive and traditional plating due to the New Peace making bloodshed unnecessary. This, however, failed, as their manufacturer shut down due to a lack of demand for machines such as V2 due to the end of all wars.[1]

After the eventual extinction of mankind following the New Peace, V1 began a descent into Hell to seek out blood, killing many denizens of Hell. V1 obtains new weapons and arms during encounters with various husks, demons, angels, and other machines, most notably during two battles with its successor, V2 V2. V1 frequently unlocks new variants for its weapons from the Terminals, purchasing them in exchange for points gained via stylishness. Along its journey, V1 encounters the archangel Gabriel Gabriel in Gluttony, fighting him and forcing him to return to the Council in defeat, where he is punished by having God's light ripped from his body. Later on, they encounter one another once again in Heresy, and V1 bests Gabriel a second time, which soon after motivates him to kill the Council in Heaven to free it from its iron-fisted rule.

V1 was made as a countermeasure against the Earthmover Earthmovers. This is evidenced by the + RAISON D'ETRE[trans.] style bonus granted by blowing up the Earthmover Earthmover at the end of 7-4: ...Like Antennas to Heaven. Furthermore, the Earthmover Earthmover was one of the final machines used during the Final War, and the war ended before V1 could make it to full-scale production. The Guttertank Guttertank's description in the Terminal states that each machine was designed specifically to counter the last. While V1's firmware was last updated almost 200 years after World War I started, and the Earthmover's description states that the Great War ended 200 years after it begun. Also, at the start of 7-4: ...LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN, the 1000-THR "Earthmover" stops attacking the Earthmover in the distance in an attempt to attack V1 instead, supposedly considering V1 to be a more significant threat to itself than the opposing Earthmover. However, it gets interrupted by the other Earthmover, giving V1 a time window to start climbing it. In addition to this, a book in the archive area of 8-2: Through the Mirror starts off with the phrase "TEXT SCANNED - EARTHMOVER MENTIONS DETECTED", implying V1, or its programming, actively searches for information regarding the Earthmovers. In the early 20th century, for various reasons, the nations of Earth became locked in an era of trench warfare. Called the "Final War", this event is implied to be an alternate outcome of World War I in the real world.[1] Early in the war, the first machines to be deployed in wide-scale conflict were known as the Guttermen[2], one of the first successful experiments in using blood as a fuel source. Guttermen were capable of very efficiently clearing out trenches, and their creation single-handedly ended the trench phase of the Final War. In retaliation, the Guttertank[3] was developed as a direct counter to the Guttermen, spiraling the conflict into a global arms race between the world's industrial powers. Every machine created for use in the Final War was designed to counter the last. As machines quickly dominated the battlefield, human soldiers became obsolete. While at first they celebrated coming home, they soon found that the war left little in its wake. Civilian populations were wrought with shortages as most resources were poured into further war machine development. The widespread poverty and ensuing chaos meant nowhere was safe, with the home front becoming just another battlefield. The Earthmovers were the pinnacle of the arms race; so immensely powerful that a single one could level an entire city. They were colossal machines, so large in fact that their backs became the new battlegrounds upon which war was waged by smaller machines. The surface had become so hostile to all forms of life that the remaining human survivors had to settle down in cities built upon the backs of the Earthmovers. It is implied that the player character V1 is a prototype machine designed to combat the Earthmovers. In the aftermath of the Final War, soot, ash, and debris clouded the skies, blanketing the Earth in a global darkness that became known as the "Long Night". Without solar power, the Earthmovers could not sustain themselves and shut down one by one. As war had become dependent on Earthmovers, their death made any wide-scale conflict impossible. The Final War finally drew to a close after more than 200 years of war without reason. Mankind was obligated to cooperate to resolve the ongoing climate collapse, brokering a new peace. With the Final War concluded after over two centuries of fighting, humanity realized their mistakes and cooperated to end the Long Night. Machines such as the Streetcleaners were developed to assist in purifying the effects of the Long Night, and were successful enough in their endeavors to become obsolete. Various systems from Earthmovers were repurposed in order to establish communication between communities With the end of the Final War, V1 had no purpose, and its development was abandoned. V2 was developed as a peacekeeper, and to justify the time and money that had went into designing V1. Demand was low, however, so only one prototype V2 model was ever made. Drones were also developed during this era for security purposes. Though initially signified by extreme scarcity of resources[6], eventually various communities succeeded in the cloning of animals such as cows and pigs. At some point during the New Peace, the entrance to Hell was discovered. A mining complex meant to extract and process minerals was built around it, and old war machines were repurposed to explore it[8]. Many new technologies were invented to aid in this process, such as the transportation of physical material via the Terminals. Terminals were able to convert physical matter into radio signals, which could then be picked up by another Terminal and be rebuilt into an object. However, this was a lengthy process. The only recorded use of teleportation between the surface of the Earth and Hell was a test which used a 78rpm vinyl record of the single Were you Foolin' of the Russ Morgan Orchestra. The connection between the surface and these Terminals was cut before another transfer attempt was made. Eventually, employees at the mining facility began to notice strange occurrences, such as doors closing and locking on their own, machinery going missing, and "creatures" (likely husks and/or demons) being teleported into rooms with employees. One unnamed employee concluded that Hell was sapient and attacking those in the complex for its own entertainment, and urged the higher-ups to evacuate the facilities and abandon the project. The Hell exploration project and mining facility were indeed abandoned, due to fear that Hell would find a way out and spread to the surface, leaving many machines, including the Terminals, trapped down there. The same group of researchers who worked in the project later attempted to reconnect to the Terminals, and discovered that they formed a symbiotic relationship with other machines in order to entertain themselves, as without new inputs from human users, they grew bored. Eventually, humankind became extinct. It is unknown how, when, or why it happened. The influx of new souls in Hell was noted to be sudden and widespread, enough to shift the current of Wrath's Ocean Styx, so it is assumed this extinction was global.[11] After the death of humanity, machines became the main inhabitants of the surface. Without humans, blood quickly grew scarce, resulting in machines fighting each other for fuel Later an unknown scientist was able to find a new fuel for it the last remaining human keeping himself alive through this fluid Right these keeping him alive basically making him immortal in some armor while his body rotted away instead his skin and bone I'm just self conscious Were the ones affected by his organs and his memories or implemented in A exosuit made to keep people alive, But the weird thing is none of the machine know about the fuel. At an unknown point in history, God suddenly disappeared, resulting in panic and chaos in Heaven. All angels were recalled back to Heaven, leaving Hell unsupervised and catalyzing numerous events in many of the layers simultaneously. Notably, a statue of a gargantuan humanoid figure and a miniscule Earth entitled "GOD" can be found in 8-1: HURTBREAK WONDERLAND. Its origin and significance are unknown. With the angels absent, Minos, the Judge of Hell, set out to reform the Lust layer; he did not believe people deserved eternal punishment for the crime of loving another. Rallying the inhabitants of the layer, Lust was completely transformed from a windswept wasteland to a thriving city, ushering in a time of peace, civilization, and prosperity with Minos as their benevolent king. This effort to thrive within Hell even extended beyond Lust itself, with infrastructure and attempts to rescue husks documented at least as far as Wrath. In Heaven, the angels finally decided to establish a holy council in God's place, using force and fear to rule both Heaven and Hell with an iron fist, in an attempt to follow their own increasingly twisted, obsessive, and dogmatic interpretations of God's will. The Council soon learned of the many changes in Hell designed to end the eternal punishments they believed the damned souls deserved. Outraged, they ordered the archangel Gabriel to lead an army to Hell and restore the status quo. Gabriel first encountered King Minos in Lust amongst a peaceful cityscape. Minos attempted to reason with Gabriel but the archangel slew him without a thought. Weeping and grieving over the death of their great king, the citizens watched as Gabriel gloated on his divine mission in the name of justice and the glory of God. Gabriel then inherited the title of Judge of Hell. Minos's snakes, once aiding him as the Judge of Hell, became grotesque parasites commandeering their previous master's corpse. The Corpse, controlled by the snakes, began to destroy the now-decrepit city, dismantling what Minos and the damned of the Lust layer had worked hard to achieve. The husks were presumably forced out of their homes to endure the winds once again. Gabriel continued through the layers and entered Greed, encountering Sisyphus and his army of insurrectionists. A war of biblical proportions began. Gabriel, noting the insurrectionists' idolization of Sisyphus, focused on Sisyphus himself. He unsheathed his swords and decapitated him, shattering his warriors' morale and leading to the downfall of the rebellion. The body of Sisyphus was entombed inside a large chamber inside a massive pyramid, decaying, headless, and held up by outstretched arms.
