• Plot: The band is under the pressure of fame. Murdoc sells his soul to the devil (literally, in the video for "Feel Good Inc.") to maintain success. Noodle struggles with her past as a child soldier. The album is darker, melancholic and critical of modern society, war and pollution.
• Vibe: Cinematic, orchestral, and somber. It is considered his thematic masterpiece.

3. Plastic Beach (2010)

• Theme: Consumerism, environmental pollution and isolation.
• Plot: After Noodle's disappearance and the others fleeing, Murdoc builds a fortress island made of plastic trash in the Pacific Ocean. Hijack 2-D to sing and create Noodle clones. It's a satire on throwaway culture and Murdoc's loneliness in his toxic "paradise."
• Vibe: Brilliant but lyrically cynical electronic pop. Massive collaborations that reflect globalization.

Gorillaz is a British virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The band is made up of four fictional members: 2-D, Noodle, Murdoc Niccals, and Russel Hobbs. Most of their songs, along with their entire fictional universe, are presented through animated music videos, traditional animation and computer animation, interviews and short animated shorts. In reality, Albarn is the only permanent member of the band. Producer and executive Remi Kabaka Jr. would begin collaborating with the group in 2016 after providing the voice of Russel Hobbs for several years and would be named an official member along with Albarn and Hewlett in 2019 in the Gorillaz documentary, Gorillaz: Reject False Icons.
