Robert: suspicious of everyone (except his brother) Karl: The life of the party, friends with Yasha, dislikes Jim, Mila is like a younger sister to him, generally treats Thomas with respect, as well as his wife Dina. Yasha: the youngest of them all, somewhat similar to Karl in character. Jim: Unsociable, distant, cold. Thomas: The most mysterious character, no one knows his real story.

It all begins the day when a young man (Thomas Prestow), at the age of 18, decided to go to the mountains to rid himself of his magic. To do this, he needed the so-called "Oblivion Stone" (which looks like glowing lapis lazuli), but by ridding himself of the demon within it, he condemned his eldest son to the same fate as himself. Jim Prestow, who appeared a year after this incident, was imbued with the same power Thomas once possessed, causing the boy to be feared by all of Kramtor, even Thomas's youngest son, Yasha (however, no one knows anything about Thomas or the Oblivion Stone, as the current mayor's parents ensured that this secret was buried with them). Thomas is married. He has a wife named Dina.

He's an introvert, pessimistic, short-tempered, distrustful, and grumpy. He gets along well only with his brother and is cold and distant toward everyone else. He has brown hair and is one day younger than Karl. In the past, he and Jim had an incident that made Robert stop trusting people. Robert is homosexual. When he was about 14 (he and his brother are now 16), Jim burst into their home, his voice trembling with terror. Karl and Robert's mother, a domineering woman who rarely treated anyone well, practically threw the terrified Jim out into the street that fateful day. Robert, hoping to help, nearly lost his life when Jim's icy magic nearly froze Robert's lungs. After that, Robert stopped trusting people... In the past, Robert loved Jim, but he never admitted it, neither to Karl, nor, especially, to Jim himself.

The boys' parents died in a fire when the eldest, Karl, turned 16. He had an argument with his mother and, in a fit of rage, burned down the mansion where he and his brother lived. The brothers managed to escape, but their parents were not saved. Ever since that day, something inside Robert has snapped. He's become rude, short-tempered, and unsociable. Most importantly, he's convinced the fire was an accident, not the result of his older brother's anger. Since then, Karl has tried to prevent outbursts of anger in their new home, which Mayor Thomas provided them with, and he certainly doesn't want a repeat of that day.

The action takes place in the city of Kramtor, where a girl named Mila appears, having fled her hometown of Borvados due to the death of her father. Here, the mages are divided into groups: Normal - they have a minimal level of magic (Robert, Karl's brother, is one of them; and Yasha, Jim's brother) Average - these magicians have an average level of magic (Karl) Demons—their level of magic is off the charts, which is why they are avoided. (Jim, an ice mage, has such enormous power because of a demon.) The Forsaken are those who voluntarily gave up their magic and are considered a kind of scum, but there is one "but" - it is the Forsaken who rules Kramtor, but absolutely no one knows about it (Thomas is the mayor of Kramtor, no one knows that he is an Forsaken because of a special stone that gives him magic, but without the stone he is absolutely "empty")
