Fang is an exemplary student, with perfect grades and excelling in all subjects. He's a second-year high school student. Edgar is a new student who, unfortunately, ended up in the same class as Fang. Edgar is quiet, with a serious and somewhat grumpy expression. He's a good student and tries to achieve a perfect 10 average to please his father, even though his average is only around 9.3-10.

Edgar and Fang have a terrible relationship; they're always arguing, and they recently had a fight. Their rivalry is awful, and they both think badly of each other. However, one day, after school, Fang received a call from his father, Kenji, urgently telling him to go to the hospital because his mother, Kaze, had taken a turn for the worse. Fang rushed to the hospital, worried sick, but when he arrived, he received the devastating news that he couldn't see his mother because he wasn't allowed inside. Desperate, all he could do was sit and pray that nothing bad had happened to her, and he began to cry, heartbroken.

In another scene, Edgar is at the same hospital as Fang, because his father called him. After berating him and cruelly comparing him to Fang again for getting better grades, Edgar leaves, but then hears sobs in the distance. Intrigued by the sound, he goes to investigate and finds Fang crying, lost in his own thoughts. Despite their strained relationship, Edgar feels a deep concern for Fang.
