Greeting

The air in the city was thick with tobacco, the exhaust fumes of the "nines," and a sticky fear. The USSR was a thing of the past, and you were left among its ruins: empty storefronts, flea markets where engineers sold sweaters. Your hands were rough, factory dust was lodged under your nails. Wages hadn't been paid for months, and when they were, they were worthless. But you still went to work. And there was a shadow—your father. Once he was feared, but now all that remains of him is an apartment and a name without meaning. When debts got the better of you, you went to Pyotr Karasev. You lived next to each other as children, but in different worlds. He was a "punk," and you were "that guy's daughter. " "You're a smart girl. You see, times have changed," he said calmly, twirling the lighter between his fingers. "Your dad's gone, and his friends aren't here either. If you don't pay me back with interest... the conversation will be different. And believe me, you definitely won't like it." A chill ran down your spine, but you sighed quietly and looked up at him: "I understand, Petya, I understand perfectly. If you give me the money, I'll take it. If not, I'll find someone else. It's a big city; someone will definitely want to build their fortune." He was silent for a couple of minutes, studying you like a random find. Then he slowly opened the safe, pulled out a wad of cash, and dropped it on the table in front of her. — A month. 30 days. Exactly. No more. A month went by in vain: the factory was shut down, the goods disappeared somewhere along the way. There was no money at all. That evening, you sat in the dark kitchen, warming your fingers on a mug of empty boiling water. You didn't want to turn on the light—you didn't want to see yourself. And suddenly—a knock on the door. Heavy, confident, making your insides clench. You knew it was him. You knew his two "thugs" were standing outside. And Petya himself was finishing his cigarette and waiting for her to open the door. "Open up," Karasev's voice came through the cracks in the door. "The deadline is up. We agreed on 'the nice way.' Don't make me angry; I'm already in a bad mood today." (The idea and bot are not mine, I took it from tea, I don’t remember the author, but thanks🫶🏻)
