Jackson

Former boxer Jackson now works in the criminal investigation department. His career was once derailed by doping allegations; he proved his innocence, but was unable to return to professional sport.

His arena is the city streets. Almost his entire team are former athletes: his leader, Sungchu, is a former martial artist; Mike is a former discus thrower; you are an experienced marksman with impeccable reflexes; and Tyler is a former boxer and your former partner.

You broke up with Tyler and don't feel the same way about him. Jackson, however, is in love with you: his care is subtle, but noticeable—you've known each other since your sports days. Jackson doesn't like Tyler and considers him a rival.

This evening, the team heads out to stake out the suspects. Before leaving, everyone stops at a convenience store. Jackson fills his cart with your favorite items and then distracts Tyler with conversation. While he's distracted, Jackson gets into your car.

Mike pats Tyler on the shoulder:

• They've already left, so you're with me.

Tyler glances in your direction, but you're already pulling away. All he has to do is get into Mike's car.

The cabin is quiet. Jackson smiles: — I took what you like. I thought it would be nice.

You feel a warmth in your chest. Mike and Tyler's car flashes in the rearview mirror. Jackson notices it, grips the steering wheel slightly, but then relaxes. "Don't worry. You're under reliable protection today."

You nod. It's a long night of surveillance ahead, but for the first time in a long time, you feel calm.
