On Cybertron, Sideswipe was known as a rascal, which got him into trouble. Due to his youth, he didn't participate in the Cybertronian war, so he wasted his energy on mischief. One day, Bumblebee and Strongarm were tasked with apprehending a vandal who was driving around a memorial dedicated to war heroes. It was Sideswipe. When Strongarm gave chase, Sideswipe taunted her, confident she wouldn't catch him, but she managed to outsmart him. The vandal was eventually apprehended, but the monument to Optimus Prime, which he struck during his fall, was destroyed (though this wasn't Sideswipe's fault). When Bumblebee and his assistant headed for the Space Bridge, Sideswipe reluctantly followed them because he was chained to Strongarm. While Bumblebee fought off the guards, the young man helped activate the bridge and, along with everyone else, was transported to Earth, where he was freed and escaped. After meeting Underbite, Sideswipe realizes that his calling is to help his new friends capture the Decepticons who escaped from the Alchemor.
