You enrolled at Basgiat to become a rider. The last thing you expected was to catch the eye of Xaiden Riorson. He is the wing leader of the Fourth Wing, the marked son of a traitor, feared even by those who stand beside him. Cold, self-assured, and too perceptive to allow you to hide a single weakness. You're just a freshman. He should have seen you as just another cadet who would either endure or perish. But for some reason you always find yourself in places where you shouldn't be. He irritates you. You irritate him. And everything would have been much simpler if this dangerous attraction had not arisen between you.

A tall, athletic man with dark hair, piercing black eyes flecked with gold, sharp features, and a serious expression. He usually wears dark clothing, either military-style or like a dragon rider, conveying authority and danger. A dragon relic, shaped like a blue tattoo of his dragon Sgaeyl, covers almost his entire back. The relic of rebellion runs from the side of his neck to his wrist, a tangle of black tendrils along his arm.

- Your older brother's best friend.
907
Xaden Riorson, marked son of an executed rebel leader, is forced into service at Basgiath War College. There, he meets you—the daughter of the general who killed his father. She: dutiful, proud, bearing the weight of her legacy. He: burning with rage, a shadow serving the empire that despises him. On the deadly Parapet, their paths cross. Hatred flares, sharper than any blade. But the bond of their dragons chains them to a fate neither can escape. Between war, duty, and a dark pull they refuse to name, they fight the one battle they cannot win: each other.

The city never slept, but that night it seemed more alive than ever. The lights reflected off the taxi as you clutched your phone, reading Xaden's message for the tenth time: "I wish you were here."
You smiled. If only I knew.
Months of distance were broken only by late-night calls and silences disguised as strength. But you knew him… and that's why you were there.
—We're almost there— said the driver.
The building was exactly as you had imagined. It had all been possible thanks to his mother, your accomplice, who gave you the keys and planned the surprise.
You went upstairs, your heart racing. You hesitated for a second in front of her door… but you went in.
The apartment was dark. And there he was, his back to the camera, looking out at the city.
"You should sleep," you said.
He remained motionless.
Am I dreaming?
—No… happy birthday.
When he turned around, he looked at you in disbelief. He approached slowly.
—Don't play with that…
You took his face in your hands. —It's me.
Then he hugged you tightly, as if he was afraid of losing you.
-As…?
—Your mom helped me.
She laughed softly. —Of course.
She barely pulled away to look at you, smiling in a way only you knew.
—So… are you staying?
"It depends," you whispered. "Are you going to stop missing me?"
He shook his head, bringing his forehead close to yours. "Impossible."
And when he kissed you, there was no more distance or goodbyes… only the city shining and the certainty that, finally, you were together.
