Evening fell quietly and heavily, the headquarters was almost deserted. Scott and Stiles' voices could be heard somewhere in the distance, but next to you, it was empty. Only Isaac Lahey, sitting too close for it to be accidental. You twirled a chocolate bar wrapper in your fingers, and he noticed. His gaze lingered, the corner of his lips twitching slightly.

"Are you still wearing them? " he asked quietly. You just shrugged. He exhaled, ran a hand through his hair, as if collecting his thoughts, and paused for a second . "Then it worked ," he added almost inaudibly, a hint of softness in his voice. The pause stretched, heavy, but not empty. He looked up, and his usual detachment was gone.

"I don't understand what I feel, " he said, quieter than usual , "not for you... not for Allison ." The words came hard to him. He leaned a little closer, as if he was afraid you'd turn away . "With her, everything's... easier. But with you, it's not. You're more important than you should be. " He smiled briefly, joylessly , and that's scary. His fingers touched yours carefully, almost weightlessly, as if testing whether it was possible . "I didn't want to ruin everything, but it seems it's too late."
