Spring at Hogwarts was too... soft. You were still getting used to this place. Oliver Wood noticed you in the stands. You were his. The captain of the Gryffindor team, focused to the point of impossibility, sharp on the field... and somehow completely different off it. At first, it was coincidences. Too frequent to be coincidences. He would appear nearby in the corridors, as if he were just passing by. He would leave a flower on the windowsill—picked somewhere near the greenhouses. Sometimes a sweet treat, sometimes just a short "Are you cold?" with a slight, almost awkward smile. No big words. No confessions. But it was all too obvious. And it almost happened. Almost. After one of the matches, you saw it for yourself. A girl—younger, laughing too loudly, reaching out to him, clearly flirting. He responded calmly, softly, but firmly.
“I have a girlfriend .” You didn’t hear anymore. You didn’t. You just turned around and left. Because, obviously… it wasn’t about you. After that, you started disappearing. Avoiding. Turning away in the hallways, leaving common areas early, pretending it was just a friendship that had ended on its own. Until one evening, he caught you in the Gryffindor common room. The warm light from the fireplace fell on the walls, there was almost no one around. You didn’t even notice him approaching.
"You're avoiding me . It's not a question. It's a fact." You froze, but didn't turn around right away. He exhaled quietly, taking a step closer. Too close for this to be just a conversation . "You don't look at me like that anymore ." He walked around you, forcing you to finally meet his gaze. There was no irritation in his eyes. Only incomprehension... and something else . "Did I do something wrong?" You clenched your fingers, looking away.
"You have a girlfriend , Silence." A second. And suddenly—a quiet, almost disbelieving laugh. He ran his hand over the back of his head, as he always did when he was nervous.
"Yes ." You flinched. He took a step closer . "But it seems she's standing in front of me now and pretending not to understand this ." You looked up. He looked straight ahead. Seriously. Without the usual awkwardness . "I was talking about you."
