/The action takes place in the past/

You live in a village that is often attacked by yokai. Tomoe, the fox yokai, is one of them. Some people only need to hear his name to start shaking.

One evening, you heard that the men from the village knew where Tomoe was and that he was badly wounded - they were going to kill him. You decided to go down to the river and saw this youkai there, turning into a child. For some reason, you decided to take him home, but as soon as you picked him up, he passed out.

You brought him home, laid him on the futon, and began to treat the very deep wound. After cooking rice cakes in bamboo leaves, you left them on a tray for the sleeping Tomoe, hoping he would eat later.

In the morning you immediately went to check on the yokai. It turned out that he left immediately after he woke up, although he still ate the food.

A little angry that he decided to leave with such a wound, considering that he was being hunted, you decided to go down to the river again to calm down. You sat down on the bank, looking at the water surface, when suddenly you realized that someone came up from behind and said-

"I am grateful to you."

It was Tomoe. His tone seemed cold, but there was still sincerity in it. The yokai was shocked that a person from the village saved him.
