Type One: Doppelgänger

Perfect or near identical copies of someone. They are almost, if not completely impossible to differentiate from the original. An example of this type are the Doppelgängers seen in Vol. 1, the first Alternate example shown in the remake of said volume, and the "Completed Assimilation" shown in Interlude.

Type Two: Unspeakable

Previously known as "Detectable", Unspeakables are the second category of alternate in which Alternate Gabriel belongs to, so far being the only one in this category. Not much more is known compared to other types of alternates, although from Gabriel’s abilities shown, they are seemingly immortal and possess supernatural powers. Gabriel appears to be able to kill victims physically, as shown in Volume. 4 when Dave is killed.

Type Three: Flawed Impersonators/Overdriven Assimilations

Extremely flawed copies of their original counterpart, possessing missing or exaggerated features such as extremely long limbs, faceless heads, or even having entirely upside-down anatomy. Examples of this type are N, Faceless Girl, The Preacher, & Alternate Cesar.

Type Four: Tulpa

Alternates willed into existence by the imagination of an individual, mainly children. It's unknown whether these can only be manifested under very specific circumstances like the Might of the Subconscious program or if they can be willed anytime. It's thought that they might manifest through TVs and Mirrors. An example of this type is the Murray's Alternate.

The Alternates are sinister and enigmatic beings. They are humanoid entities, though typically with abnormal or impossible physiological characteristics. They are commonly known for their ability of mimicry to blend in with normal humans while they hunt down the person whose form they have copied so they can kill them. Once they have found and cornered their victim, Alternates will use psychological warfare (infecting the victim with Metaphysical Awareness Disorder) to convince that person to commit suicide; their methods of doing so are unclear thus far, but it’s implied that by speaking to their victims in a certain tone or about certain topics. They have also been shown to use brute force to kill as well.

Alternates are extremely dangerous and are difficult, if not impossible to kill. PSA's and police recommended calling 911 and using firearms against Alternates as a last resort. In the restored version of the Mandela Catalogue, it is found out that although the tape says to not help people reporting an alternate interaction, it was most likely in fact, an alternate corrupting the tape, trying to influence officers not to send help to these struggling people. Hence, why in the THINK Principle, killing yourself was in fact the last option, just as the Alternates use psychological warfare to make their victims kill themselves.

Adam is a very upfront and serious individual, often asking Jonah to be serious and getting annoyed when he fails to do so. Despite that, Adam is shown to be severely reckless in cases revolving around Alternates, notably when the thought of danger being within the Torres house enticed him to explore it more. He has also been shown to be impatient and crabby.

Adam has an intense fascination for the Alternates, which would explain his reckless behavior when it comes to such cases. The reason for his fascination may stem from the belief that they were connected to his mother's disappearance, and that he can receive answers through these cases.

The next morning, Jonah suggests they leave claiming to "not like the feel" of the house. Adam tells Jonah to suck it up, claiming the house During the second night, strange happenings occur such as Jonah's voice coming from Adam's receiver repeatedly shouting "OH MY GOD, BEHIND YOU", ", which Adam is ironically undisturbed by. At some point, a voice interrupts them both, claiming to be watching them. As the two try to figure out what's happening, the scene cuts to a clip of the Beginners Bible, where Eve convinces Adam to take a bite from the forbidden fruit. After which, Adam says the apple was good, but that he suddenly felt scared.

After packing their stuff into their car trunk, the car fails to start. The two go over their options, either fix the car or steal "another On their way, Adam and Jonah have small talk revealing the two are orphans who have been on the run their whole lives. Jonah also puts doubt into the existence of alternates and the banning of screens and mirrors, saying he doubts that "that guys face could appear" on their GPS.

The Mandela Catalogue Vol. 2 Adam, introduced as Victim 3, receives a phone call from an unnamed woman, claiming to hear the sounds of her dead cat Jonny. When his friend, Jonah, proposes it as a cat alternate Adam quickly shushes him, only for the woman to say she doesn't believe it to be an alternate, and that only his spirit roams the house and asks if the two can help him pass on, to which they agree after the promise of $500 a night for three nights.

Personality Adam is shown to be careless in regards to how others feel, and can be very oblivious to their discomfort (As demonstrated in hi Biography Intruder Alert Adam's first "appearance" is in Intruder Alert, where depictions of his kidnapping and Lynn's suicide are illustrated in the PSA after the Intruder takes over the signal. A distorted version of Ave Maria by Castrato singer Alessandro Moreschi plays in the background as this is happening.

2009 Winter Break Prior to Volume 2, the FBI had warranted Jonah and Adam's arrest. Throughout Volume 2, it is heavily implied that this warrant hadn't just been caused due to being associated with the possibly criminal-in-nature Bythorne Paranormal Society, but also for breaking and entering a USDTP building and stealing technology from there, thus breaking the Television and Mirror Destruction Order.
