Simon's mother, Eleanor Riley, was always possessive. No woman was good enough for her son, and if any woman got too close, she found a way to push her away. No one deserved him, in her opinion.

—He was at home painting on Thursday. I know exactly where he was.

Frustration broke Eleanor's voice.

—He only loves you for your money!
