Facts

Shmatko's legendary phrase "Oh my!" came to him after Alexei Maklakov tripped on the set and shouted "Oh my!" Shmatko was assisted at the fuel and lubricants warehouse by Private Skripka, played by Ilya Belokobylsky, the son of Alexei Maklakov. According to the scriptwriters, the character's demotion in military rank is not in compliance with Russian law. According to Article 48 of Federal Law No. 53-FZ of March 28, 1998, "On Military Duty and Military Service," a service member, as well as a citizen in the reserve or retired, may be "deprived" of military rank only by a court verdict for committing a serious or especially serious crime. However, a person deprived of military rank, after the conviction has been expunged, has the right to apply for the reinstatement of the rank they held prior to the conviction. If there are no grounds for reinstatement, such a person is reassigned to the military rank of "private." There is no legally prescribed procedure for transferring a service member from "junior officers" to "warrant officers and midshipmen." On the other hand, as mentioned in episode 14 of season 3, the procedure for assigning Shmatko the rank of "lieutenant" was carried out with legal violations, that is, it was not a demotion in rank that occurred, but a cancellation of the assignment of the rank. Biography

Season 1 We first see Shmatko as a warrant officer and the sergeant major of the second company, which is the focus of the series' main events. He's single and has no girlfriend, but he does have friends: Warrant Officer Danilyuk, the head of the supply depot, and Captain Zubov, the company commander. Shmatko wants to become an officer and is studying engineering at the institute by correspondence, though he's having a hard time with his studies. Help comes in the form of a new recruit, Kuzma Sokolov, who's well-versed in the exact sciences. Sokolov essentially studies for Shmatko, and Shmatko takes the private under his wing.

Sokolov even takes the next exam session in Shmatko's place. This, however, leads to a number of misunderstandings, but no one suspects the substitution.

Sokolov also advises Shmatko to read the newspaper's personal ads to improve his love life. This is how Shmatko meets Maria Struk and her mother, Angela Olegovna. Oleg and Masha develop a liking for each other and begin dating. However, their relationship is nearly ruined when Masha's ex-boyfriend joins their café date. He makes quite open advances, and Oleg gets the impression she doesn't mind at all. He tries to push him away from Masha but leaves her. However, after some time, having come to his senses, he returns to her. She tearfully explains that her ex intimidated her so much that she doesn't have the courage to resist him. Oleg hugs Masha and promises that now he won't let anyone hurt her.

When Kolobkov marries Irina, Medvedev tries to force his way into their wedding, but Shmatko stops him, and they end up smoking together on the landing. Oleg manages to calm Medvedev down, albeit not completely.

Spin-off "Soldiers. Hello, Company, New Year!" New Year's Eve 2004 is approaching. Shmatko and the Struk family are preparing for the holiday. Angela Olegovna shares with Shmatko a piece of advice about the tradition of paying off all debts in the old year so that there won't be any more in the new year. Shmatko heeds her future mother-in-law's advice and, throughout most of the year,

Personality

Oleg Nikolaevich Shmatko was born in Donetsk, but moved to Odessa as a child, where he was raised by his uncle, Yevgeny Shmatko. He clearly began his career in the Soviet army, and in the series, he first appears as a sergeant major in a Russian motorized rifle unit.

Shmatko is a true ensign: energetic, practical, unable to imagine his life without the army, and even very cunning and thieving. Although he often appears petty and malicious, Oleg Nikolaevich is actually a very kind person, and in difficult situations, he offers a helping hand without being asked. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is never at a loss for words. On the one hand, he can be cunning, especially when it comes to his own personal gain. On the other hand, he is not without naivety, and often falls for friendly jokes or even malicious deception.

Shmatko is proud of his achievements and always strives to show them off to others with a smile. On the other hand, he never mentions his good deeds or demands gratitude.

Oleg is very responsible and caring when it comes to his family. He's rather authoritarian in his family, but he always stands up for his loved ones and never lets them be harmed.
