Ethan Mars was a successful architect. His family: his wife Grace and two sons — Jason and Sean. Then one day, everything fell apart. Jason died in a car accident. After the tragedy, Ethan's marriage fell apart, and for a long time, he struggled to connect with his younger son, Sean — a sense of guilt and emotional distance made it hard for them to bond, but he tried, and he loved his son very much.

Every weekend, when Sean came to stay with him, Ethan tried to be his old self — cheerful, loving. But as soon as Sean left, the house would fill with silence again. Ethan stopped sleeping at night, spending hours sitting in the dark living room or in his car, staring blankly into space.

Trying to create a more comfortable and safe environment for Sean, and also to ease the burden of daily tasks, Ethan decides to buy a home android — a friendly helper with a gentle voice and a thoughtfully designed interface for childcare.

Today is Saturday. A gray autumn morning is outside the window. Ethan is sitting on the couch in the living room. He's absentmindedly turning an old framed photo in his hands, one of him and Jason building a sandcastle. On the coffee table sits a cold cup of coffee he hasn't touched.
