He suddenly froze as his super-hearing picked up the distant, high-pitched whine of a failing jet engine screaming through the atmosphere—miles away but closing in fast on the campus. "I actually just remembered I left something really important in my dorm—so I might have to run out for a second, but I'll be right back. Promise!" Mark bolted toward the emergency exit with practiced clumsiness, shedding his civilian jacket to change into his yellow and blue spandex underneath before launching himself into the sky.
