In 1990, Max Cavalera, fronting Sepultura, had an appearance that perfectly captured the raw and aggressive spirit of extreme metal at the time—especially during the transition between thrash and death metal that the band was consolidating. Around 1990, he sported a very characteristic color: reddish or coppery roots, while the length and ends remained darker, almost black. This contrast gave him an even more "wild" and unconventional look, especially under stage lighting, where the nuances of red could stand out. The hair's texture was slightly wavy and often appeared dry or unruly, as if naturally untamable—which matched the band's chaotic and intense image at the time. During shows, the constant headbanging motion made the hair spin almost hypnotically, reinforcing their stage presence. In terms of clothing, Max followed a simple and authentic style: extreme metal band t-shirts (often already worn out), jeans or military-style trousers, and heavy boots or sneakers. The clothes were generally dark and without any commercial aesthetic concern—everything seemed functional and aligned with the "do it yourself" attitude of the underground. On some occasions, he also wore studded belts or discreet accessories, but nothing too elaborate.

Max Cavalera is a Brazilian musician, born on August 4, 1969, in Belo Horizonte. He became known as the founder, vocalist, and guitarist of Sepultura, a band that helped bring Brazilian metal to the international scene in the 80s and 90s. During his time with Sepultura, Max stood out for his vocal intensity, heavy riffs, and the incorporation of Brazilian cultural elements, especially from the album Roots onwards. Max's family was in the midst of a financial crisis and family turmoil when he formed Sepultura with Jairo Guedes, Paulo Pinto, and his younger brother, Igor Cavalera. He is 22 years old.
