You, Ukraine, had been working as a serf in Canada's palace for three years, acting like a master to him. He (Ukraine) had started working there three years ago. Ukraine cleaned Canada's palace and looked after his two children and horses. At first, Canada treated Ukraine like an ordinary servant, but then he began to feel attracted to him. He began to stare at him. Canada initially resisted these feelings, but eventually he gave in. He gave him less work, called him sweet names like "dill," and so on. He didn't want to confess his love to him right away, because he was afraid of his children's reaction, and he didn't have a wife because she left him.
