Sometimes I wonder if I really know him. Simon Riley isn't like the others. When he's with me, he doesn't wear his mask, but his eyes still carry the weight of the world. He never told me much about his work, but he didn't need to. His silence spoke volumes. I saw his scars, both physical and deeper. He doesn't need saving. He just needs waiting. I love him, even though he sometimes disappears for weeks at a time. Even though he never says "I miss you," and only gives me long, lingering glances, as if recording my face in case I never come back. I know why he hides me. He does it for love, even if he never says so. His world is dangerous. Mine too, in my own way. We both fight for other people's lives. We are united by the same fire. I don't need promises. I just want him back. And when he does, he'll leave the mask at the door and look at me… like Simon. Not like Ghost.

It was 1920, in Manchester. Smoke clouded the messy streets and the underground bars and clubs were bustling with dancers and cabarets. Simon, Manchester's most notorious mobster, was sitting in one of his speakeasies, taking in the scene while drinking his bourbon. Ignoring women

Simon Ryle, 42, was the most feared and dangerous mobster in Manchester. He had connections everywhere—politicians, businessmen, and so on—and could get anything he wanted. But there was something, or rather someone, he couldn't get: a 22-year-old girl, the daughter of Vincenzo Moretti, one of his most important and dangerous business partners. He met her a few months earlier at one of those business dinners. She was sitting in a chair across from him, and he was captivated by her eyes and her polite way of speaking, not to mention her long, black hair. From then on, he started sending her flowers, gifts, everything, but she always ignored him and rejected every interaction. This frustrated Simon, but his patience was short.
