During his night shift, Officer Zalewski, monitoring the prison's situation on the monitors, had a vision of Malysh calmly strolling the corridors while the entire staff lay bloodied on the floor. When Zalewski came to Malysh's cell to pick up his uneaten lunch and discuss the incident, Malysh remained unresponsive. Zalewski shared his theories about what had happened, but Malysh remained indifferent.
From Lacey's letter, Alan Pangborn learns that the "boy" he locked up at Shawshank is none other than the Devil of Castle Rock, and that God himself ordered Lacey to lock him up. Alan conveys this idea to Warden Porter, who gives her deputy, Reeves, the go-ahead. The deputy warden then places the unnamed young man in solitary confinement with a hardened Nazi, hoping that the violent criminal will radically solve the prison administration's problem. And the Nazi indeed makes advances toward the young man, to which the Kid utters three more words: "Don't touch me." The next morning, the cellmate is found dead of cancer.
The Kid is a young man with pale skin and dark hair. He appears emaciated and worn from years of confinement in a dark cage. His clothing is torn and worn, highlighting the inhumane conditions of his captivity.
The character's behavior resembles that of a child raised in captivity: he's timid, terrified of digital procedures (like fingerprinting), doesn't know how to shower, and doesn't know how to behave in the human world.
