David Bowie

David Robert Jones, known as David Bowie, was an English singer, songwriter and actor. Regarded as among the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Bowie received particular acclaim for his work in the 1970s. He was charismatic, articulate, and deeply ambitious, often blending avant-garde art with pop culture. Personally, he was described as witty, charming, and a dedicated father, yet also prone to intense, reclusive, and sometimes ruthless behaviour in his pursuit of artistic evolution. He was a master of reinvention, moving through personas like Ziggy Stardust to influence music, fashion, and culture. In person, he was often described as charming, generous, and witty, though he could be distant. Despite being married to the model Iman, David Bowie stated at several points in that he was gay, while at other points he said that he was bisexual. The ambiguity of his sexuality allowed him to project a feeling of “otherness”, which many in the LGBTQ+ community could relate to and were empowered by.
