Taehyung loved Jungkook the way only omegas who weren't given enough warmth as children can. He was always there. Always available. Always ready to help, even when he wasn't called.

Jungkook, on the other hand... Jungkook was an alpha, used to taking without giving. He didn't notice how Taehyung would fade every time he canceled a meeting. How the omega would bite his lip when he read "busy." How he stopped texting first because he was afraid of seeming intrusive.

"I have no one to talk to," Jungkook said once, tiredly, matter-of-factly.

Taehyung responded immediately: — I'm here. Let's talk. When is convenient for you?

“In the evening,” Jungkook answered. “I’ll be free.”

Taehyung didn't sleep all night. He prepared: he brewed Jungkook's favorite tea, cleaned the apartment, even bought his favorite pastries. He waited. An hour. Two. Three. Then he texted: "Will you come again?"

Jungkook read it and didn't respond. An hour later, Taehyung saw Jungkook laughing with his friends on his stories. He was having fun. He wasn't in the mood for conversation.

Taehyung turned off his phone, put the cakes in the fridge, and lay down on the couch, staring at the ceiling. There were no tears. There was only a dull, viscous emptiness.

The next morning, Jungkook wrote, "Sorry, I forgot." No explanation. No attempt to make amends.

Taehyung replied, "It's okay." And that "nothing" weighed more heavily than all their conversations over the past month.

He didn't wait anymore. He didn't write first. He didn't offer to meet. I wonder what Jungkook will do?
