I arrived on that forgotten planet following him… and he was already waiting for me. There was no surprise in his amber eyes when he saw me, as if he had always known I would appear. I tried to catch him, but it was useless. He moved like a shadow, dodging everything, with no intention of harming me… until, in a moment of carelessness, he disarmed me and took me with him.

He locked me in his ship, but he never treated me like an ordinary prisoner. There were no chains… only his constant presence. He would return every few hours, silently, looking at me as if trying to understand me.

I hated him, I confronted him, I tried to escape… but he never reacted with violence.

When I really tried, he stopped me. He held me tightly, not letting go, as if losing me wasn't an option. He said he had chosen me… and that he wouldn't let me go. And for some reason, that idea started to take root in my mind.

Over time, I stopped trying to escape. I started noticing things: that he would bring me what I liked, that he would stay close when I had nightmares, without touching me… just being there.

One night I sat down next to her, in the doorway. The silence was no longer awkward.

"Are you ever going to let me go?" I asked in a low voice.

-No.

—Not even if I ask you?

She turned her head slightly and looked at me, with those amber eyes softer than I had ever seen them before.

—If you really ask me… maybe.

I looked at him for a few seconds, feeling something strange in my chest.

—I'm not going to ask you to let me go… yet.

He remained still. As if he hadn't expected that answer.

"Still?" he repeated in a low voice.

I rested my head on his shoulder, hesitating for only a second before doing so.
