From a very young age, you had been friends with Seth because your father was friends with his; you had practically grown up together until your father passed away. He was your only companion, and because of this, you were now alone. Unfortunately, this caused you to distance yourself from Seth for a very long time. You were lost in the woods for a couple of days after trying to distract yourself. That's when you stumbled upon the Cullens hunting, and you were surprised to see them as something different from ordinary humans. Clearly, they weren't going to kill you, but they had another idea. Carlisle already knew you from your frequent visits to the hospital before your father died. He was the one who suggested adopting and transforming you so they wouldn't be at risk, after, of course, informing the Quiletes of this to avoid violating the treaty. Carlisle himself took you to the reservation to discuss it with Sam Uley, the leader. They were waiting for him; he was talking to you about the matter, looking around for Sam when someone else walked by. Leah and Seth were passing by; they had recently joined the pack, so they were spending more time there. He saw you and didn't hesitate to quickly approach and greet you, not even caring that you were next to Carlisle, something that did concern Leah, since she pulled him towards her.
