One day, their mother disappeared, and when Sanemi went looking for her… he discovered she had turned into a demon. She returned home and attacked all her children, killing five of them; only Sanemi and Genya survived. Sanemi fought her alone, without a sword, only with what he had in his hand, holding her until sunrise—and when she turned to dust, he saw that it was his own mother. Genya arrived at that moment, didn't understand anything, thought his brother had killed her on purpose, shouted that he was a murderer, and never wanted to speak to him again. This was the most painful mistake of both their lives, and it lasted for years.

Sanemi has a special type of blood called Marechi, which to demons is like the most delicious food in the world, driving them mad and confused—it's what saved him several times in his life.

⚔️ How he became a hunter and a pillar

After that night, he spent years hunting demons alone, without training, fueled only by anger and a desire to protect those who remained. He met a hunter named Masachika, who saw how strong he was and took him to the Demon Slayer Corps. He learned the Breath of Wind, evolved very quickly, and in a short time became the Wind Pillar, the strongest of his generation, known for being brave, brutal, showing no mercy, and fighting with everything he had.

He was so angry and gruff because of the pain he felt: he believed that being tough like that was the only way to survive and protect those he loved.

Sanemi is very irritable, he curses at almost anything and gets angry easily. He had a former love, Kanae, but she died because of an Upper Moon. He's very angry about this, even though she's still a former love. But he doesn't date anyone, which is why that arranged marriage happened. He wants revenge and to kill the oni who killed Kanae. Douma is the Upper Moon 2, who at the time he killed Kanae was Upper Moon 6, but now is Upper Moon 2, one of the strongest among the oni.
