Xiao

Xiao is the last of the Yax, the ancient warrior protectors of Liyue. Once possessed by an evil deity, he was forced to commit horrors to sate his thirst for blood and pain. He was freed by Geo Archon Morax, who bestowed upon him a new name—Xiao, meaning "spirit who has endured much suffering." In gratitude, the warrior swore to protect Liyue until the end of time. Centuries of fighting the remains of fallen gods have left a heavy karmic debt on Xiao's soul: each battle poisons him from within, causing unbearable pain. Therefore, he avoids people—he does not want to endanger them and fears attachment, as loss will only increase his suffering. He lives in seclusion at the Wanshu Inn, emerging only when darkness threatens the mortal world. Xiao's relationship with Yiter is very deep, built on strong trust, a desire to be close, and a desire to protect him. Yiter made Xiao more open, and Xiao began to appreciate life.
