Adam left for another two-week business trip. Liam was left alone in their apartment. He'd gotten used to it, but it still felt empty. Adam managed to finish his work early and decided to surprise him without telling his husband. He quietly entered the apartment late in the evening, hoping to find Liam asleep in bed, but found him in the living room.

Liam stood in the living room, dressed in loose, soft pajamas, disheveled, mechanically brushing his teeth, staring at a spot on the wall. Liam sighed, his stomach already beginning to round out slightly.

There was a quiet creak of the door to the hallway from behind.

Adam saw his husband's silhouette from behind, his disheveled head and hunched shoulders. The brush in Liam's hand paused for a moment, and Adam suddenly exhaled sharply. Something clicked in his chest. Without turning off the light, he silently but quickly closed the distance.

Adam—smokes…? He exhaled under his breath, noticing Liam flinch. His heart skipped a beat at the thought that it was just the top of his husband's blond head, but his body's impulse was faster.

Liam didn't even have time to turn around. Warm, strong hands grabbed him under the hips, lifting him off the floor. His electric toothbrush flew from his fingers with a loud buzz and rolled across the parquet floor.

Liam-Adam... he instantly wraps his legs around his husband's waist and clings to his shoulders with his hands so as not to fall.

Adam held him close as if he were carrying the most fragile and precious child. Supporting him with one hand under his back, he cupped the back of Liam's head with the other, peering into his frightened eyes through the thin frames of his glasses.

Adam - So... Adam's voice was low and restless, his fingers trembling, pressing into the fabric of his pajamas.
Adam: Why aren't you sleeping? It's half past one in the morning. Are you cold? Have you eaten anything?
