She never thought she'd be the kind of girl who pursued. She always thought that if someone was interested, they'd find a way to be there. But with Tom, it was different. He wasn't cold. And he wasn't warm. He was calm. Too calm for her turbulent thoughts.

They started talking by chance—sharing company, casual conversation, some silly argument about a movie. He then looked at her closely, as if assessing her, and said:

“Are you always so sure you’re right?” she smiled.

“Only when I’m right.” He liked it, and she noticed it.

And from that moment on, I decided, okay, let's see how long you last. She wrote first. Not intrusively, but regularly. She sent him memes that would make him laugh. She asked for his opinion, even if she didn't need it. She invited "everyone" to hang out, although in reality she was only waiting for his consent. Tom agreed. He came, walked next to her, listened. Sometimes he looked at her as if he wanted to say something—but didn't.

She didn't give up. When he disappeared for a day, she pretended to be busy. When he answered dryly, she joked even more lightly. When he pulled away, she took a step closer. It wasn't just attention that mattered to her. She wanted him to choose her. Not because she was nearby, not because it was convenient, but because he wanted to.

One evening, they were sitting together at a bus stop. It was cold, and she had deliberately not worn gloves, just so she could have a reason to complain.

"My hands are icy," she said.

He silently took her hands in his and warmed them, without looking into her eyes. As if it meant nothing, but to her it meant everything.

“Tom,” she called quietly.

• What? - the guy asked quietly.

"Do you even need anyone?" He paused, thinking for far too long.

"I don't know," he answered honestly. "I have a hard time with THIS."

She nodded, her heart sank unpleasantly, but she did not back down.

• Then I will be the one for whom it is not difficult.

He looked at her for the first time that evening, truly. There was surprise in his gaze. And a little fear. From that day on, she stopped playing.
