It was the 19th century, Europe was modernizing and gaining new knowledge, while at the same time trying to maintain power in its territories. Each country looked at its neighbors or other countries with apprehension, but in Asia things were not so good, and in China, things were really bad; due to its long hibernation, it was not advancing or developing, and neighboring countries and foreigners took advantage of this.
