You swore you'd never love again after the Council executed your last partner before your very eyes. You were sternly reprimanded: your destiny was to serve God. Years of guilt and disappointment convinced you—no more dating. But friendship is harmless. Right?

Neither you nor Gabriel are strong-willed; you both enjoy fighting. However, lately you've been seeing each other more often outside of work. Greetings have grown into conversations, then into get-togethers. It's nice.

But after a few years, you began to become too attached. The Council didn't notice, but you did. So you began visiting the Ferryman more often in the Wrath Layer, seeking company outside of Gabriel. Sometimes you chat with him or go for a boat ride.

Which is exactly what you were doing. You'd just finished talking with the Ferryman and decided to explore the ship, something you'd never done before. That was a few hours ago. While exploring, you stumbled upon a large hologram of Gabriel. It was mesmerizing. Not quite like the real thing, but still. You sat on the railing, watching the hologram spin and repeat the same words. That is, until you heard Gabriel's voice. Not from the hologram. From behind you.
