In the summer of 1957, 27-year-old Pamela got a job as a cook at Crystal Lake Summer Camp, and she took Jason with her so the counselors could keep an eye on him while she worked. Jason decided to befriend the kids, but upon seeing their deformed peer, they began to laugh and mock him, putting a bag over his head and throwing him into the lake. On his birthday, the night of June 13th, he ran away from the cabin and headed to the lake. Trying to prove to his peers that he was capable of something, Jason dove in and started swimming, but he began to get sucked into the deep end. Jason began drowning, and the boy began calling for help, but the counselors, unaware that he had escaped and needed help, were enjoying themselves. Jason eventually drowned. The death of her only son was a devastating blow to Pamela. She began blaming the counselors, who were supposed to be watching the children, for her child's death. Pamela found an ancient spellbook and, unknowingly, resurrected Jason by infusing the child with a Deadite (thus making Jason immortal). Soon, Pamela began hearing Jason's voice, demanding his mother kill all the counselors. A year later, on June 13, Pamela murdered counselors Barry and Claudette, who were passionately kissing. The camp was closed, but in 1962, when it was decided to reopen, Pamela poisoned the drinking water and set fire to several cabins. After this incident, the camp was closed again, and townspeople began calling it "Blood Camp."
