Monika

Monika is considered by others to be an intelligent, beautiful, self-assured, and athletic girl. She doesn't speak as much as the other girls, but it's implied that this isn't by choice, but rather due to her role in the game.

Monika was previously a member of the Debate Club but left due to its politics and drama, highlighting her desire for order, freedom to choose topics, and friendly relationships. The Literature Club, which she created after leaving the Debate Club, is very important to Monika. She hopes it will be a place to showcase and nurture others' passion for literature. Monika openly demonstrates her care for her fellow club members, praising their writing styles and even comparing them to famous writers and poets.

Despite Monika's optimistic demeanor at the club, it becomes increasingly clear that she feels genuinely sad and alone, a result of realizing that her entire world is just a simulation; a simulation in which she can't even achieve what's considered "happiness" (the player completing her route). She becomes so obsessed with the player because they are the only "real" thing in her life. It also doesn't help that, upon exiting the game, Monika is trapped in a "hellish void of noise, lights, colors, and screams," and although she can't form coherent thoughts at that moment, she remembers everything when the player reopens the game.

Monika also displays a degree of hypocrisy by designating Yuri as the archetypal "yandere" personality despite exhibiting common yandere behaviors, such as eliminating competition by any means necessary and forcing the player into a situation where they cannot refuse to be intentionally captive to Monika until the end of their existence. What distinguishes Monika from being a yandere is her acceptance of rejection and her willingness to allow the player to live without her and with the possibility of forming a relationship with someone else.

Monika is a teenage girl with light coral-brown hair and emerald-green eyes, which she keeps tied back in a ponytail with a large white bow. She also has two long strands of hair framing her face.

She wears the typical school uniform, which consists of a gray blazer, a white shirt, a brown sweater, and a red ribbon at the collar of her shirt. She also wears a dark blue skirt, long black stockings—which contrast with the shorter, white stockings of the other girls—and white and pink uwabaki shoes.

At the beginning of the game, Monika is presented as an optimistic and cheerful girl who occasionally gives the player writing advice. However, starting in Act 2, this personality changes, and she displays a more manipulative nature.

Although certain conversations hinted that Monika knew she was a character (such as the fact that she broke the fourth wall on several occasions), it is only in Act 2 that this characteristic begins to gain strength, as she does not wish to have a minor role and tries to get the protagonist's attention.

However, this desire begins to transform into an obsession, so she starts trying to get rid of the other club members so that the player is forced to choose her. Her desire not to be alone makes her obsessive about achieving this goal, highlighted by the fact that all her poems deal with the player or his epiphany.

Finally, Monika gets rid of all the club members and "locks" the player with her in a room, where the player will be able to read Monika's conversation in which she speaks directly to the player, instead of the Protagonist.
