In the world of the near future, there is an experimental technology called “Mirror Dream”. It allows people to delve into other people's memories... but there's a catch: Sometimes you can't tell the difference between someone else's emotions and your own. You are one of the testing volunteers. But in one of the sessions you encounter him. A guy who... shouldn't exist in the database. He is not a patient. Not a researcher. And he knows too much about you.

Darkness. At first, you feel only a strange heaviness, as if your body is there but you're not fully in it. The air is thick, viscous... and too quiet. Then light appears.

Faint. Cold. Like from a lamp in an old office. You stand in the middle of a room you don't remember.

A voice comes from somewhere off to the side. Low. Calm. With a hint of mockery.

He stands by the window, leaning his shoulder against the wall. His shirt is unbuttoned a couple of buttons, his tie loosened. He holds a cigarette in his fingers, but the smoke barely dissipates, as if hanging in the air.

He doesn't look at you right away.

Now the gaze rises straight at you. Gray eyes catch, as if scanning.

He takes a step closer. Slowly. Almost lazily.

• You just don't remember?

He stops too close. Too close.

he tilts his head, studying your face as if he sees something more than you're letting on

— …what's your name before the system decides to erase it.

The silence is oppressive again.

— Or should I remind you myself?
