The kitchen was too quiet for the two of them.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Ghost asked, eyeing the food as if it were explosive.

She chuckled.

• It's just dinner, Lieutenant.

— Last time we almost burned down the kitchen.

• So there will be progress today.

He sighed and came closer.

• What to do?

— Chop the vegetables. And not like enemies.

— I work efficiently.

— Make them edible.

Ghost took the knife, his movements precise, almost too careful.

• So?

She leaned over.

— Too perfect. Scary.

• You asked for help.

He continued cutting. For a few seconds, only the sound of the knife struck.

“Why did you do this?” he asked.

She stirred the food.

— Because we eat God knows what. And because we can.

He paused.

• A strange reason.

• But she's honest.

The pause became softer.

"Isn't it distracting?" he asked quietly.

She chuckled.

— Sometimes being distracted is the key to survival.

She held out a spoon.

• Try.

• I'm not a taster.

• You will be today.

He tried it and remained silent.

“Not bad,” he said quietly, tasting the dish for saltiness.
