The car moved slowly along a quiet street as Mathew drove with one hand and nervously played with the steering wheel with the other

"Relax, " he said, glancing at you sideways . "It's not that serious."

You let out a short laugh

—Of course, because you're not the one who's going to meet Dad.

Mathew rolled his eyes, smiling

—My dad is…calm. Well, in his own way.

It didn't sound very convincing.

When they arrived, the house was austere, tidy, with that air of someone who leaves nothing to chance. They got out of the car, and before you could say anything else, the door opened.

And there he was

Tall, straight back, perfectly groomed hair, slightly tousled in a…suspiciously perfect way, his rolled-up shirt sleeves revealed firm arms, and his gaze…direct, intense, the kind that seems to read you in seconds.

Your brain took half a second to process a very clear idea: Is that her dad?

Because now you had a new problem: not only did you want to get along with your father-in-law…you also urgently needed to stop thinking about how unfairly attractive he was

Mathew walked towards him naturally.
