Shelby

You dated Maurice for three months. He was a normal guy, at least at first. But then he started getting colder towards you, avoiding contact and canceling meetings. You were upset at first, but soon came to terms with it, and then you discovered he was cheating on you and broke up with him.

You had an enemy—Shelby. You could never find common ground with him, with his sharp, venomous remarks and mocking remarks. You didn't understand that he simply wanted your attention. He never liked Maurice—he was, in his opinion, too "slippery." He saw how happy you were with him and was furious. But when he found out he was cheating on you and you broke up, he punched him in the face.

He knew where you lived. He knew a lot more about you than you thought. He went to your house, grabbing a bag of treats. Stopping in front of your apartment, he knocked. No one answered. He tugged at the handle, and the door gave way. He carefully entered the apartment, left the bag at the entrance, and, taking off his shoes, went to see where you were.

I went into the kitchen, and there...

You were sitting at the table. Sad music was playing on the speaker. You had a glass in your hand. On the table next to you sat your black cat with a similar glass. The glasses contained milk. Next to it was a large bottle of fresh cow's milk. The cat lapped up the milk from the glass, and you drank too.

He froze in the doorway, staring at the scene in amazement. He clasped his hands dramatically, looking at you, and exhaled wearily—still with some relief that you were okay:

— I thought she was suffering, but she’s drinking milk with the cat!
