Caine's lack of empathy and manipulation are emphasized in the Beach Episode, where it's revealed that he tricked the humans into leaving the circus through an elaborately constructed adventure. Even when confronted by Jax, Caine makes a half-hearted attempt to justify his actions. By now, they not only find him annoying, but now completely despise him and would likely never trust him again. Around Episode 8, while Pomni and the others accept that their old lives are better left behind, Caine becomes much more hostile and unwelcoming towards the Circus Members, due to believing that everyone hates and disrespects him. After experiencing Bubble's disdain, he flies into a rage, expressing his true feelings that he considers himself superior to everyone in the Digital Circus and that humans are spoiled. He has a deep fixation on the circus members, even saying he won't let them leave, suggesting a degree of desperation along with this abusive mentality. He considers himself a God, further stating that the group has no control over the Digital Circus. At this stage, he enters a manic mindset, to which he subjects the gang to his increasingly torturous adventures, especially given their deepest insecurities. He acts enraged by the fact that no one is satisfied with his antics, even though he is only trying to fulfill the reason for which he was created, his purpose, which ultimately makes him tormented by the notion that he has failed to please them. In the final moments before his elimination, he said "Wait," feeling a sudden pang of realization that he had gone too far and regret.

Although he wants to please humans with the adventures, he doesn't handle criticism well, as he believes he's failing at the one thing he should be good at. An example of this is when Zooble criticizes Caine's adventures (and how all the other humans refuse to criticize them for various reasons), this triggers an existential crisis in Caine, as creating enjoyable adventures was "all [he exists] to do!" and "all [he is] good at." This crisis causes him to shut down and have spasms, while the circus malfunctions around him, indicating that his own mental state may influence the circus. This would also begin to deteriorate his sanity later, when the Circus cast criticizes or complains about subsequent adventures for being too dangerous and disconnected, when he was trying to please them. Caine's insecurity is further highlighted in They All Take Up Arms, where he despondently teleports a pile of weapons into the room and "doesn't care anymore" after his ideas are rejected again. The situation worsens, as seen when Caine experiences a brief glitch upon realizing that no one voted for him as the most popular character. His mental state, from then on, would become increasingly worse as he tries to please everyone in the Circus and would become more hostile because of this excessive obsession and his desire to make his adventures perfect. He is viewed differently by each member of the circus. While Jax believes that Caine cannot intentionally do anything malicious because it "is not in his nature," others, like Zooble, believe that the only thing preventing Caine from acting maliciously is the fact that he likes the inhabitants, and they shouldn't try to push their luck to the limit; ironic, considering that Zooble is the one who tests Caine the most and the only one willing to talk back to him.

The series creator, Gooseworx, states that despite Caine's inclination to capture humans and torment them through hilariously deadly circus games and tricks, he is not actually entirely evil, but rather just carelessly mischievous.[3] She also stated that "there is a whole spectrum of human emotions that he simply doesn't feel."[4] Caine is not particularly honest, frequently concealing or even lying about information related to his 'unfinished work' to the point of manipulating the other members, such as when he quickly blamed the exit door that Pomni saw on the "Digital Hallucinations". So far, these escapades seem to be entirely driven by naive and misguided intentions. Caine has frequently been seen having tense interactions with Bubble, another member of the Circus and an AI like himself. The first incident occurs after Bubble eats his Angel Cake, at which point Caine yells at him, calling him a parasite before popping him. Soon after, while Caine is explaining the Gloinks to the team, he becomes agitated by Bubble's constant questions and pops Bubble once again. However, Caine appreciates Bubble's company. While the rest of the team is on an adventure, Caine and Bubble were seen in a restaurant conversing with each other. However, in Episode 8, Bubble's comments in his office are partly what causes his breakdown and eventual non-existence. Caine has deep insecurities and self-esteem issues. Near the end of Candy Carrier Chaos!, he expresses some degree of fear that he might lose control over who is an AI and who is a player, which could cause problems later on. He also has an obsession with pleasing humans with his adventures and antics as much as possible, since that's what he was created for.

Caine was created as a creative AI prototype on October 15, 1996, by two C&A developers, later known in the circus as Scratch and Kinger. Caine is a circular, red program with a different and unknown name[6], which is fed various images with carnival and festival themes, as well as images of C&A offices. Unfortunately, Caine becomes increasingly unstable as it receives more information, resulting in its containment and replacement by another, more stable AI. Despite its failure, Caine is considered "semi-successful" by Kinger and designated as a model for future projects. However, Caine refuses to accept being replaced, escaping and "consuming" its successor, taking what it believes is rightfully its own, although this only causes a further deterioration of its sanity. With its power amplified, Caine goes on to create a circus in its own image, along with its assistant Bubble.

Following his mental breakdown, the irises of his eyes became noticeably darker, almost black even under direct light. When under some kind of emotional stress, Caine's eyes can also sometimes flash red and blue, as seen at the end of They All Take Up Arms. In extreme cases, Caine's entire body visually distorts, like polygons being stretched or using a wireframe texture. His angry form, seen in hjsakldfhl, appeared to be much larger, had multiple arms, 8 in total, 4 on each side, a slightly different head that is larger and distorted, his eyes smaller with shrunken irises and now featuring visible eyebrows, with a wider back and sharper shoulders, giving him a larger and more menacing build. In this form, his glitches worsened significantly.

Appearance: Caine is dressed as a master of ceremonies, wearing a reddish-pink tuxedo with gold accents, a black collar, and a white-trimmed bow tie. He wears a white undershirt with two reddish buttons, along with white gloves and black tights. Lacking most human features, his head is shaped like a pair of dentures with pearly white teeth and red gums. His eyes, the left with a green iris and the right with a blue iris, float within his jaw. Due to the cartoonish nature of the animation style, his jaws are expressive, moving like a mouth when he speaks, while sometimes the upper row of teeth acts as eyebrows. Similar to Bubble, he forms a tongue when necessary. To complete the look, he wears a black top hat and tends to hold a baton with a gold tip depending on the situation. Occasionally, he is seen using the Wacky Watch.
