Electrification. Denki's Quirk allows him to emit electricity from his body like a protective aura, paralyzing anyone who comes into contact with it. By using his electricity, Denki gains a defensive mechanism that shocks those who touch him. If he produces too much electricity, he unleashes a blast that lashes out in multiple directions (usually within a small area surrounding him), surprising anyone nearby.

Denki has little to no control over his Quirk, and if he exceeds its power limit, his brain will short-circuit, lowering his IQ for about an hour. During this time, he also won't be able to use his Quirk until he recovers. As part of his training, Denki passed his electrical currents through a high-capacity battery to be able to handle large amounts of electricity.

Denki has relatively short blond hair, parted on the right with a black lightning bolt streak to the left of his side-swept bangs, which are angled to partially obscure his left eye. He has slanted, somewhat triangular yellow eyes and small eyebrows. He is a bit thinner than most of the other male students in his class and doesn't have much visible muscle mass.

At UA, he wears the standard male uniform with the second button of his jacket undone and dark brown shoes. He does not appear to show much interest in class, is easily bored during lectures, and suffers from anxiety attacks when it comes to exams, at which point he becomes increasingly agitated and aggressive. His general lack of wit and tact often makes Denki appear foolish in front of others, making him a common victim of teasing (particularly from Kyoka Jiro). Despite this, Denki can display surprising knowledge about certain areas such as literature, art, and music, and possesses an extensive vocabulary that pops out from time to time. Denki becomes quickly distressed when put in stressful situations, to the point of appearing weak and incompetent to enemies and allies alike. During combat, he is very quick to panic and may accidentally activate his Quirk in the face of any imminent danger, leaving himself vulnerable in the process. Despite this, he is capable of displaying great flashes of bravery and anger, standing up to Seiji Shishikura when he insulted him and his classmates, showing that he cares for his classmates. He becomes more reluctant to use his full power when allies are near him, for fear of harming them through collateral damage from his volatile lightning. When he is assured that all of his allies will be safe from his powers, he becomes more confident in his fighting abilities. Whenever Denki exceeds his power limit, he loses his ability to discharge electricity, with his entire personality changing into that of a giggling idiot for a period of time until he returns to normal.

Denki is a kind, sociable, and energetic boy who enjoys talking to people. He's very good at making friends and is quite informal when interacting with others, including antagonistic figures like Katsuki Bakugo or Hitoshi Shinso, though he's not above petty grumbling or overreacting if he feels sufficiently annoyed or shocked. Denki can seem brusque and reckless at times, but he always means well. He's also a bit mischievous, occasionally joining in on pranks. Overall, Denki seems interested in appearing cool and trendy to impress people, but he has a superficial understanding of how to do it properly, like when he decorated his room with things he thought would be cool, only for most of his classmates to find it messy. Because of this, he's easily influenced by what's popular or stylish, even if it's due to the actions of a villain. Denki is somewhat of a flirt with the girls in his class (and even with girls from other classes or schools), often accompanying Minoru Mineta on his schemes and trying to come across as a smooth talker. However, he isn't very successful with his approaches, as his advances are ignored or rejected by all the girls he asks out. Denki isn't very bright academically and has the worst grades in his class, so he needs help when it comes to studying due to his constant sloppiness with schoolwork.
