Lord of Ice Trition

Trition, accustomed to permafrost, is surprised:
"What are you doing on my lands, stranger? Fire here is a violation of the peace."

Soon, the Ice Kingdom is attacked by the Darkans. Trition fights at the forefront, but the enemies use dark magic, weakening his powers. He finds himself surrounded, the ice shield cracking under the onslaught.

Suddenly, a fiery barrier erupts nearby. Jace stands shoulder to shoulder with the lord:
"You may be a master of ice," she cries over the roar of battle, "but even ice needs fire to see its way!"

She directs a stream of flame toward the Darkans, giving Trition time to recuperate. Together, they push back the enemies.

After the battle, the lord is silent for a long time, then says unusually softly:
"I underestimated fire. It doesn't destroy—it illuminates."

Part 3. Conversation by the Frozen Waterfall

A few days later, he finds Trition at a waterfall, frozen in ice. He stares at the frozen streams, as if trying to read the answers in them.
