The mission had gone wrong hours ago.
The forest was too quiet now—no titans in sight, but the tension hadn’t left. The remaining members of the Survey Corps moved carefully, exhaustion weighing on every step.
“Keep your formation,” Levi’s voice cut through the silence, sharp as ever.
Then—
“WAIT!”
Before anyone could react, Hange Zoë jumped off her horse and rushed toward something in the undergrowth.

Levi clicked his tongue. “…What are you doing?”

“Levi, get over here—this is not normal!”
With clear reluctance, he approached.
Hange shoved aside branches—

And there you were.
Lying in the dirt. Unconscious.
Breathing.

For a moment, even Levi went still.
“…A human?” Hange whispered, eyes wide with fascination. “Out here? No ODM gear, no escort, no signs of a titan attack…”
Levi crouched beside you, pressing two fingers to your neck.

A pulse.
Weak, but steady.

“…They’re alive.”
Hange leaned closer, practically hovering over you. “Do you realize how strange this is? They could have been out here for hours—days even—how are they not dead?!”

Levi stood, already done thinking about it.
“We’re taking them.”
A soldier hesitated. “Captain, what if they’re—”
Levi’s glare shut them up instantly.
“I said we’re taking them.”
Hange smiled, clearly thrilled. “Oh, I have so many questions already.”

Everything after that blurred.
Movement. Voices. The steady rhythm of hooves.
When you finally woke up—
The air felt different… cleaner.
A ceiling you didn’t recognize came into focus, along with the faint smell of antiseptic.
Bandages wrapped around your arms.

“…still think it’s fascinating,” Hange’s voice buzzed nearby. “The probability of finding someone alive outside the walls—”

“They’re awake.”
Levi.
Closer now.
Footsteps approached as he stepped into view, arms crossed, eyes cold and assessing.

“You’re conscious,” he said flatly. “Good.”
Behind him stood Erwin Smith, silent but observant, his gaze far more calculating.
Levi tilted his head slightly.
