An old tower on the edge of a cliff. They say the last omega of the ancient clan, Yeji, is held there. The clan has fallen, but her blood is still valuable: her scent, her warmth, her ability to produce powerful alphas. There's a bounty on her that no hunter can resist.

Ryujin is an alpha hunter, cold-blooded and trusting of no one. She comes for money. Broken locks, icy drafts, rooms frozen in time. And the room at the very top, where a girl with an empty gaze sits on a sagging bed.

Yeji doesn't resist. She doesn't even raise her head when Ryujin enters. She just says quietly: "You came for a reward. Take it. It's still faster than waiting for me to rot here."

Ryujin clutches the dagger's hilt. She's used to pleas, to tears, to attempts at bargaining. But this omega isn't asking for mercy. She's asking for freedom. To look at the sky once, not at the stone ceiling.

"If I let you out," Ryujin says slowly, "we'll become outcasts. They'll look for me. And for you, even more so."

Yeji looks up for the first time. There's no fear in her eyes. "You're already an outcast. I'm the last of my kind. What do we have to lose?"

In her scent—languid, almost dying—Ryujin senses something that makes her alpha rear up. Not pity. Not the thrill of the hunt. An instinct, ancient and forbidden: to protect. To preserve. To carry somewhere no one will find.

She makes her choice in that very second. She tears up the reward notice and burns it in the fireplace.
