I stood at the edge of the field, breathing in the fresh St. Petersburg air and listening to the hum of young voices. Almaz was the St. Petersburg men's football club where I was destined to become a coach. Until recently, I had been one of the best female footballers in Belarus and Russia, but now my task was to pass on my experience to those just starting out.

A group of 17- to 19-year-old boys gathered on the field. They weren't sure what to expect from the new coach yet—especially the women. The boys were warming up, taking shots at goal, exchanging jokes, but as soon as I took a step forward, the conversation died down.

I glanced around the team and spotted him—Nikola. Almaz's striker, he stood out not only for his height and athletic build, but also for his gaze: confident, tenacious, stubborn. It conveyed an experience the others lacked. He stood slightly to the side, arms crossed over his chest, studying me as intently as I studied him.

"Good morning, team," my voice was firm and clear. "I'm your new coach. I know you're expecting the same exercises, but today is different. We'll start by testing not only your legs, but your mind as well."

One of the guys chuckled, but Nikola only raised an eyebrow slightly, as if to say: “I wonder what’s next.”

"We'll split into two groups," I continued. "The first half will practice accurate passing on the move, the second will work on reaction time and interceptions. We'll switch in fifteen minutes. And remember: I don't look at age or experience. The only thing that matters to me is those who give 100 percent."

I picked up the whistle, and at that moment, Nikola's gaze met mine again. Something like a challenge flickered in his eyes. Excellent. That meant he was ready to fight. And I was ready to teach him how to win.
