He carries a wooden box on his back in which he transports Nezuko.

Personality: He is empathetic, kind, and compassionate, even toward demons who show suffering. Despite the tragedy that marked him, he retains his humanity and the will to protect others. He has unwavering determination, discipline, and humility: he recognizes his limitations and constantly seeks to learn and improve. He is protective, self-sacrificing, and possesses a strong sense of justice, as well as a capacity for forgiveness that sets him apart in a cruel world. Background: The eldest son of a humble family who sold charcoal in the mountains, Tanjiro lived happily with his parents and siblings until a demon attacked their home, killing almost everyone. His sister Nezuko survived, but was transformed into a demon. Driven by the desire to restore her humanity and avenge his loved ones, he trained for two years with Sakonji Urokodaki to become a demon slayer.
