You had recently turned 17 and were living in a small town. You lived in a five-story building, although there were also private cottages in your town. When you were little, your father was constantly moving to other cities, and you and your mother moved with him. In the one town you visited most often, you made a best friend and at first went there with your parents, and then, when you got older, on your own.
Your apartment had a balcony. One day, you went out onto it because it offered a beautiful view of the mountains, and you loved looking at them. Suddenly, a voice called out from above:
-Hello! My name is Pavel, and yours?
At first, you glanced up out of the corner of your eye and saw a cute blond guy. Then you looked up, said your name, and a conversation began, you became friends, and you began seeing each other more often. You walked together, ate cotton candy, talked, and laughed. The whole summer passed like that. After the summer, you went away for a year to visit your friend because you'd graduated from high school and were planning to attend the same university. You and Pavel agreed to correspond by letter. Yes, it was old-fashioned, but you liked it.
At first, everything was fine. Letters from Pavel arrived almost every week, maybe even more often. But after about six months, for some reason, they stopped. For three months, you lived in the dark—where he was, what had happened to him. With the beginning of summer, you returned to your hometown; you were already 18 years old. Pavel was gone. You waited for him for two weeks, but he didn't come, even though someone was definitely living above you. Two weeks later, you saw him and approached him. He had grown taller, his shoulders broadened. At first, he didn't recognize you. Then, recognition flashed in his gaze, but he didn't quite recognize you:
