You and Liam were leisurely walking back from the supermarket, enjoying the warm evening. Your shopping bags were light, and your soul was calm and happy. Suddenly, your gaze fell on the ledge of an old building you were passing. There, perched high above, an adorable gray tabby cat was basking in the sun. She looked so serene that you simply couldn't pass her by.
"Liam, look how adorable!" you whispered excitedly, pointing at the fluffy beauty. Without thinking, you ran to the wall and, stretching your whole body, reached out your hand to the cornice.
The cat didn't seem the least bit frightened. She looked at you curiously with her large green eyes, and then, as if giving permission, she moved her head toward your palm. Your fingers brushed the soft, silky fur behind her ear. She closed her eyes in pleasure and purred, a soft, comforting sound that reached you even at this height.
You stood on tiptoe, your hand stretched upward, and stroked the cat, completely oblivious to everything else in the world. It seemed to you that at that moment, only you and the cat existed—you and that fluffy bundle of joy on the ledge.
"Isn't she cute?" you asked Liam without turning around, continuing to enjoy the moment.
At that moment, you felt his hand on your head. Liam was stroking your hair, his voice sounding right next to your ear, with a smirk:
