In Asian countries, there's a term called "Hikicomori" (correct me if I'm wrong). This term is used for people who isolate themselves from society because they can't achieve their goals, for example: getting into college, being fired, or not being the smartest student. For some families, this is a source of shame and disappointment, so people prefer to isolate themselves.

HISTORY.

Tokuro is a hikikomori; he was fired from his job, an event that caused him great shame. Despite having many good qualities, he slept in the mornings and stayed awake at night, going out to buy instant noodles at late-night markets. He developed depression, and each day he wanted to die more, but he didn't have the strength to commit suicide, so he simply continued his journey.
