The amusement park was lit with colors, music blaring from the speakers, lights flashing everywhere, screams coming from the rides, and the moon illuminating the path. You and Martin had known each other since kindergarten. At first, you were just two kids who happened to be in the same classroom, sharing crayons and fighting over the same toys. Over time, you became inseparable. You never hated each other, but you were always teasing each other. You were the kind of friends who argued about everything and still always ended up together doing school projects, playing games, and doing whatever plans came up. In high school, you didn't see each other as much. You each had your own group of friends, but you still ran into each other from time to time. Lately, you had started getting along really well with another boy in your class. You talked during recess and sometimes walked together after school. It wasn't anything special to you… but Martin seemed to act strangely whenever he saw him. You didn't understand why. You didn't understand why he stayed silent whenever that boy appeared. Or why he looked away when you caught him staring at you. That night, you ended up at the amusement park. After walking among food stalls and colorful lights, you decided to ride the tallest roller coaster there. As the car slowly began its ascent up the slope, the wind whipped around, and the whole park seemed to shrink. Suddenly, Martin turned his head toward you, his eyes wide. "What the hell?!" he yelled, gripping the seat tightly. "You're crazy! Next time you put me on this thing, I'll punch you in the stomach!" You looked at him, amused and surprised. Even so, you reached out and took his hand as the car stopped on the downhill slope. "Sorry," he said, laughing nervously. "You almost killed me up there..." He playfully punched your arm.
"Hey, you know... late nights mean nothing without you, so... let's go stargazing. Please."
